Many people consider the '98 and earlier engines (12 valves) the best, especially for WVO.  But it is getting hardr to find older trucks that aren't rusty or worn out.  Generally the newer ones are quite a bit nicer to drive too.

On another note, I have to state that installing the grease car kit on a cummings is one of the easiest install you will do on a large truck. Alot of the later model dodge cummings is really just a plug and play. Grease car has done a great job of designing the kit for the cummings engine. So your on the right track about trying to find a dodge cummings, and I drive a F350. hahaha

I need a truck but do not ""NEED "" a four wheel drive
I have seen a few 3/4 ton  two wheel dodges for sale
But I am looking at the cost .
Most certainly more money to buy a diesel ..
A couple thousand for a kit .
Maybe be able to install it myself .. Maybe a garage bill too LOL
Certainly some money to set up a filter system and a space to do it .
So I think you would have to save about 4- 5000 dollars in fuel before you break even .
But I am getting the oil anyway .. And giving it away .
I have got 30 cubes since Sept .
Our diesel is about 1.30 a litre ... So I figger I gave away about 5- 600 dolars worth of fuel
It was not filtered .... But still it was clean oil so tp speak in jugs

My truck runs beautifully with WVO. I was surprised that I didn't smell anything from the tailpipe when the engine was first switched to WVO after conversion. You will not notice that the engine is running on WVO at all.
The VW Jetta was a different story. People on the highway (with windows rolled down) followed me and asked whether I was running on WVO.

When I was shopping for an older Dodge Diesel I saw quite a few 2WD Pickups available on e-bay.  I definately did not want a 4WD.  I wanted a replacement for a 2WD gasoline fueled Silverado for towing my boat cross-country.  $-WD is not needed out on the interstate, and I didn't want a small fortune-worth of driveline parts wearing out without even being used.
Sure, my 93 Dodge Club-cab drives like a "truck", certainly not as comfortable as my 2000 Silverado Ex-cab was.  However, the Dodge Diesel has WAY more balls when it comes to towing a big boat up over a mountain.  Haven't had any prob with the GC kit either.

People like the earlier engines because they are so simple.  Your '05 doesn't smell much because it is so clean running.  On my '99, like on the earlier ones, you know for sure what it is burning.  On diesel, it just stinks.  On WVO, it stinks like a fryer.
My VW (an '06) is just the opposite.  You almost can't smell the exhaust at all.  It's pretty hard to tell what you are burning.
