F250 starts in AM, but then stalls out
My 99 F250 Grease Car starts in the AM but acts as though it's not getting enough fuel, then quits.
Over the weekend, I changed both fuel and VO filters and thought it took care of the problem.
It was running great. Then Monday AM it was running a little rough until it warmed up.
I reset the controler to a low of 100 degrees (factory preset level) and the high (switch to VO point)
to 150 degrees. Yesterday I installed the much recomended DieselSite 203degree thermostat.
The truck ran beautifully. This AM sputter, sputter, sputter for 10 to 20 secs, no power, no RPMs
then stall. What should I look at?

thanks for help.
Low was set to 90/high to 100. It was running fine like this for a few days. Cold engine temp in AM have been 80-90 (sun on truck)
When it has sputtered out starting in Diesel Auto mode, I could restart in Manual Veg Mode, but it doesn't,t always want to keep running.
This TIme, two hours later at one PM, when I was able to reastart in Vege Mode, it was not firing well on all cylenders. Then after about a minute, it stalled. During this rough run, I tried switching to Manual Diesel, but it didn't help.
After I installed the 203 stat, and changed the op temps for the GC Pilot to factory 100 and 150 to burn veg, the truck ran fine for that afternoon. Except for a leak from the thermostat housing. (I may have snapped a mount bolt)
I,m at dentist yesterday and today so will try to work on the PSD 250 tomorrow. I ordered the EBay fuel pump last night and talk to diesel site aboit torque on the cast aluminum thermostats housing. I will check voltage to the fuel pump, but I,m not sure what I,m
Looking for. I have no way to check fuel pump pressure.

A fuel pressure gauge is the place to start. You can also pick up a glass sight fuel filter at Autozone. Don't worry that it says don't use on high pressure fuel systems. I have used one for years on a powerstroke. Install filter after the pump and then you can see what is going on.

So the truck used to start with diesel when COLD and switchover to veggie at 100F coolant temp
and it ran good without any problem. And now you have problem.
When it has sputtered out starting in Diesel Auto mode, I could restart in Manual Veg Mode, but it doesn't,t always want to keep running.

So you have problem in both diesel and veggie mode.
After I installed the 203 stat, and changed the op temps for the GC Pilot to factory 100 and 150 to burn veg, the truck ran fine for that afternoon.
So now you switchover at 150F coolant temp and I would say your veggie temp would be much
higher than when you switchover at 100F coolant temp. It would be much easier for your lift pump
to deliver hot veggie to the injection pump.
Except for a leak from the thermostat housing. (I may have snapped a mount bolt)
Does the housing looked good ( I meamt the flange)? If not try to get a new housing.
Your can also try to use black silicone as gasket instead of the paper type.
BIG QUESTION! ARE DIESEL AND VEGGIE SHARE THE SAME LIFT PUMP????
If yes I would suspect your lift pump is on the way to retire.
(You mentioned that you changed the diesel and veggie filters already.)
The best way to prove this verdict is by monitoring the fuel pressure after the lift pump
I have no way to check fuel pump pressure
You can install a "T" fitting on the fuel line before the injection pump and hook up a fuel pressure guage
inside the cab. You can monitor your lift pump operation and your filter clogging condition by looking
at the guage while driving. IMO the fuel pressure guage is a MUST inside the cab.
IIRC, the PSD needs at least 45-50 psi before the injection pump.
The stock lift pump would output 95-110 psi.
Final suggestion:
Check for air in the system by looking at clear sight filter.
Monitor the fuel pressure while you experiencing problem. Out of spec (too low) pressure
would means fuel pump replacement.

Is it throwing a check engine light ? The pcm HAS NO MONITORING OF FUEL PRESSURE. NO CEL WOULD HAVE ME CHECKING FUEL PRESSURE. hook a electric fuel pressure gauge inline after pump and filter. Except during purge it should be pretty steady 55~70 psi.
Whats age condition of injectors ?

In diesel mode or veggie mode or both mode?

In which mode? At what engine temp/veggie temp?

No problem here.

The same question, what mode and what temp?
What should I look at?
Have to make sure you have no problem running on diesel, from cold start to Hot engine, first.
Have to identify whether the problem is veggie related or not.
