Holy Sh_T !!!!
29 grease vehicles. and maybe 75 people. 1 Installation completed under the camera of RNN and New YorkTimes. The Journal News, News Channel 12 and an indi film maker were also here. All the hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta and corn was consumed. As was most of the beer and soda. My daughter sold most of her extra Girlscout cookies, Phil won the 50/50 raffle and donated it to the brownie troop. 604td demo'd his grease sucker, man o man!!, Batteryboy and his team made it to the top of Turkey Mountain. DONNIEJ came from philly. other news to follow.....gota go to work.
next year we might have to change venue. we need more room if more come.
It was great putting faces with the names..JP, JB, Wally, Steve (604td), Phil, Mark (nyredneck), Headshot zod, Dave, DonnieJ...And those who's names I can't remember...
Thanks to JP for the hospitality, Mini Murph was asleep before I made it down the hill to 118 :)
Did anyone get pics of the Tahoe with the 300SDL (?) Mercedes engine???
And thanks to Batteryboy for the "raffle" of how many grease rigs to show...It seems my guess was the closest..Here's what I won

78AH ups battery - does a great job with the 12v transfer pump.

JP,
Allow me to repeat the hearty thanks for the magnanimous gesture for putting up the greasers for the day. I got htere pretty late but still had the opportunity to meet a lot of nice folks and see some interesting things.
The Mercedes Engine in the tahoe though probably was the coolest. All in all a nice time with some good people and what I consider to be among the BEST porter that I have had in a long long time.
Here are a few pix from the event. One of JP and two friends and another of the fearsome foursome that tackled the turkey. This is the "AFTER" picture. Me on the left, then Battery Boy, then Bob and Karen.... (I think.. i just met them)
Thanks again for everything

OT - the Tahoe had a 6 cyl MB engine, not the 5. It was mated to the stock 4L80E trans and NVG 246 xfer case. It was also run through smog, so the conversion is legal!!!!

Mike,
Thanks for the pic. What I see is just what I got from your explanation. Great way to go. I think I just might be done in on the brazing though. Im not that good at it. I can braze pipes and solder electrical but not weld type brazing. I guess I will go with the jury rigged "C" clamps for now :)
And Steve..... I thought those black pants looked familiar... JK... Steve, I do have a picture of you holding up your heater unit.... Shoot me an email and I will send that to you to use at your discretion..
Wally, That was some awesome free publicity for you. Dude, they made you sound like the Adam of the grease-Eden. Only thing I disagreed with was the reporters flip time estimate for payback of the "system" To me its looking closer to 2-3 yrs but for the environment in the meantime its a good thing.

Fill It Up, Please, and Check for Clogged Arteries By PETER APPLEBOME YORKTOWN, N.Y. - About midway through the event billed as Greasestock, a voice boomed out, "Steve is goingto demonstrate his vegetable-oil-sucking device."
This might not be guaranteed to draw a crowd everywhere, but when you have a bunch of people with cars, trucksand S.U.V.'s that run mostly on leftover grease from Chinese or Italian restaurants, it is no minor event.
And sure enough, everyone was soon looking on attentively as Steve Leung flipped a switch and a viscous streamof yellow soybean oil was slurped from a 36-gallon tank into a 5-gallon container you could use to pour vegetableoil into your gas tank.
"I don't know if it was a vision from God, but when someone told me you could run a car on vegetable oil, I knew Ihad to do it," said Dave Kandell of Huntington, on Long Island, whose
1985 Mercedes 300TD has letteringreading "Veggie-Powered" on the back and "Refueled at Rosa's Pizza" on a side window. "It began as a statementabout oil companies and greed, but I also like saving money."
Grease Nation, which turned out about 60 people in 20 veggie-powered cars at Peter Pratt's Inn in Westchester onSunday, remains a niche within a niche within a niche. But with gas prices spiraling toward $4 a gallon, it's not abad niche to be in.
So they came from near and far - Jesse Goldin, 23, from Brewster, in his first car, a 1985 Mercedes he boughtfrom Mr. Kandell; Tod Backe from Stowe, Vt., in an oversize 1982 Volkswagen Westfalia camper; Tom Lee fromSouth Kent, Conn., in a shiny Chevrolet Tahoe S.U.V. refitted with a Mercedes diesel engine.
It's not as odd as it might seem. After all, when the German inventor Rudolph Diesel came up with his high- compression engine in the 1890's, one of his thoughts was to run it on vegetable oil. And commercial biodiesel, apopular alternative fuel, contains vegetable oil.
The grease cars, as they're known, have diesel engines and are fitted with two tanks, one for diesel, one forvegetable oil. They heat the oil to keep it from clogging.

So the process is more reliable in hot weather than cold, but the cars run all year. Drivers start a car on diesel andthen switch over to vegetable oil, which can come from local restaurants or from oversize containers fromdiscount stores like Costco.
"I've found that Italian places tend to have the best grease, and Chinese places are real hit or miss," said DonWilson, who drove up from Philadelphia. "I've seen Chinese places with real good grease, and I've seen placeswhose grease makes me rethink whether I'd want to eat there."
There are two routes to grease-dom, but both of them tend to run through Internet sites like greasecar.com, wherepeople buy kits to convert diesel engines to operate on vegetable oil.
Some people, like Mr. Kandell, buy the kit and install it themselves. Others hire someone like Wally Little ofWally's Super Service in Mahopac, who has converted about 150 engines for vegetable use.
"I've had people in their 20's, people in their 80's, doctors, tree huggers - there's no particular stereotype," hesaid. "It gets busy whenever oil prices come up. Normally, I get maybe 10 inquiries a week. Last week I had 50 or60." It costs about $2,000 to convert a car, and most people make that up in a year with what they save on gas, hesaid.
But it's not for everyone. You usually get the oil free, but you have to store it in vats and filter it yourself. So Mr.Lee, for example, has 1,200 gallons of the stuff lying around at home.
It can spill or get messy, and unless you'rereally conscientious about your filtering, you can face a clogged engine or a stalled car periodically.
Still, the fuel costs almost nothing, it's much less polluting, and the geopolitics is right - you get your energy fromthe local pizza parlor, not some Middle Eastern oil colossus.

Well, I hope you know what I mean. Not over could be an understatement as the prices of gas roll on up.
I might want to lock in another source before they all get sucked up (no pun intended)

Next time I'd be willing to put a few dollars up to take out an advertisement in a local paper to get people to come who haven't seen grease cars up close. Especially if we are going to have it at the firehouse. It's important that we get together but also more important to get possible converts over.
