Hey, y'all.

Does anyone have any experience with a Volvo diesel engine and WVO?

I am looking at a 760 wagon, 6cyl turbo diesel with about 250,000 miles on it. Do the Volvo engines have a good enough lifespan to make it worth my while?

Thanks in advance for any guidance...

The 6 pot Volvo unit is, I believe, derived from an older 4 pot VW/Audi engine. Rare, but a good motor in it's day & was the fastest wheezil in the world when it first hit the streets. Provided the engine is in good condition you should be fine, but bear in mind that running one of these cars as standard can sometimes prove trying due to the lack of spares availability for this somewhat uncommon motor.

If the volvo was well maintenced and still seems strong you should be able to keep it alive for a long while with proper care. They are rare so I've found it difficult to find shops who will work on it. I would call around your local shops just to make sure someone can help you when something breaks. It is the same as the VW/Audi 4cyl. just 2 more cyl.
ive got 8,000 greasecar miles on my 1985 volvo 745 and I love the car.

Hey, thanks for the info, DD and VV. I appreciate your insights!

It is a nice looking wagon, that Volvo. We'll see if I can make it happen...

(Dang, but they have the nicest people on this forum!)

I'm hot on the trail of a 86' 240 dl. where is the fuel pump located on this vehicle?. And what would be the normal life for the audi or VW diesel engine.. this currently has 170,000 on it..thanks

Well serviced you could drive it till the body falls apart. 300,000 or more who knows. depends on how long you want it to go for..IE can afford.

I am trying to get into the game (SVO)
I am looking at a couple of cars.

One of which is a 82 volvo DL
It is a 4cyl and has 168k miles (not bad)

Is this a good car to start with.
I hear older volvo diesels need more maintenance and adjustments than most diesels.

Volvo only sold cars with a 6-cylinder diesel. Not bad engines, but not as easy to service or get parts for as a Mercedes.

Edit: Now that I think about it, you are probably referring to a gas car. The Volvo DL is just a trim level, it doesn't mean diesel. Great cars (I have one), but you won't be running diesel in it.
