I have read a few near disasters involving veggie/wvo/bio/diesel on this site. One involving lard and another with foam filters and hot oil. I was on a road trip far from home (Oregon and live in Buffalo). I couldn't start the car after a 3 hour rest. I treid everthig until the battery was almost dead. I even tried to jackrabbit start it, it just wouldn't run. WTF! My wife and daughter and I where stuck at a small marina town with no diesel repair shops around. I had 4 days to get back home and was getting nowhere fast. I called a tow truck from a suggestion from the local gas station attendent. The tow guy had some diesel rigs and knew a little about diesels. We finally got it to run for about 5 seconds useing WD40 and some diesel poured into the air intake. At least I knew the rings weren't fried or something else with the engine. After a lot of tooling around we figured it was the injection pump as there was little to no pressure at the injectors and it wasn't sucking fuel from the feed line. He found a used pump for fifty bucks and put it in along with a new filter full of ATF (auto tranny fluid). Apparently it oils up the pump and cleans out the injectors. After trying for several minutes it fired up and stayed running. What luck! The tow and labor plus the pump price set me back 200+ dollars but at least I was back on the road with 3 days to spare. This was my worst experience with a diesel. I wounder what misadventures I will have with the veggie. Hopefully none. What was your worst veggie/svo/bio/diesel experience? Please share it as we may all learn something from your trouble. :-)

Not nearly as bad as yours. back when I was newbie I filtered using good cheesecloth. then went on my first road trip, about 250 miles into it I noticed as my Jetta went up a hill it started slowing down ( I had it on cruise control) and when it was level everything worked fine, I backflushed on the fly and it ran good about twenty miles and did the same thing, then backflushed again switched to diesel and ran twenty miles and switched back to veggie,it ran good the rest of that day but on the way back started the same thing. Result was a clogged filter, I pulled off the road at a CarQuest, got my Gerber Multitool out removed my bolts off the bracket and changed out the filter right in the parking lot, no problems since, I now filter to 5 microns and that second filter has over 13,000 miles on it ( I'm changing it this weekend).
