I've got soy oil used exclusively for french fries. Cold gravity filtered to 50, 10 and then 5 microns. Post-filter settled for at least 2 weeks. Light amber color.

Can provide in scalable quantities.

Are you referring to taxes? I will record and pay on sales tax. As far as road tax, I'm not selling the oil as a fuel, it is vegetable oil and can be used in a number of applications including as a fuel additive.

Have you already been selling vegetable oil to some people? What kind of interest have you seen up your way?

Hey McQueen,

I just started producing more VO than I can use and just began getting the word out as of yesterday. I'll keep you posted as to how much demand there is.

That argument won't fly if you are noticed by the state revenue office. It's been tried before. If the VegOil you're selling is used as fuel it will be taxed as fuel. The only questiosn wil be WHO exactly owes it the seller or the buyer. In the past States have held the seller responsible for collecting taxes.

I don't think selling some vegetable oil to a few people will be a problem. It's too small of an operation for the government to care.

I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone will care if someone sells filtered vegetable oil to a few friends.

I recognize that the situation is a gray area. I'm the one who has always adamantly asserted that any substance used as a motor fuel in a roadway vehicle is subject to the road tax. Recall that it is not illegal for fueling stations to sell diesel without road tax paid, it's just illegal for people to use it on roadways.

Concerns notwithstanding, I've got recycled vegetable oil for sale in 5-gallon cubees that people can do with as they please... except use it as a motor fuel on roadways.

Somehow or other, it just doesn't seem right to use the grease boards to sell vegetable oil. It just goes against the grain. I'll help any traveller with free grease - my only request is that they do the same for travelers that come their way. I've only had one person take me up on it so far, but I was able to supply him with ~45 gallons of high grade, dewatered and well filtered canola oil. It got him from FL to VA without incident - with some to spare. I've had others offer to supply me, and of course those offers are reciprocated. An informal network like that will help a few summer travelers.

With that said, it does take time and effort to collect, filter and dewater the VO. I suppose if you are working on a commercial venture, this is a way of helping to make the rent. Maybe it's worth selling to those that don't expect to repay the favor - but keeping the quid pro quo as an option. If you ever drive on I10 through FL, give me some warning and I can tank you up... just - do the same for me when I'm in your neighborhood.

81SD,
I agree with you when you say that you will give oil freely to others. I will do the same. I do not have a ton of oil but I have recieved a lot of good advice from others and think that I should repay them back. Veggie oil should be done by donations or given away freely in my mind. Unless there is a co-op that has many members, prices for oil should be donations only.

If some one wants to pay him fopr used veggie oil I say let em. EACH state has different laws reguarding the STATES definition of fuel and how to tax it. Mine says it has to be mixed with Diesel,Gas,Kerosene before being classified as fuel, therefor BY ITSELF vegoil is not subect to road taxes, BUT if you use for example DSE (involves kerosene and RUG and mixing filtered veg oil) You guessed it TAXABLE AS ROAD FUEL!! Things that make you go hmmmm!
