TDI smoke

I took a long drive this weekend and I noticed after I went up a lot of windy, hilly roads, the jetta had puffed out a pretty big cloud of white smoke while on grease. it seemed to do it on diesel as well...but seems on grease it smoked more. I could smell the vegetable oil about as aromatically as you can with a one tank system on an old benz...usually I don't smell anything while running grease..it kept smoking after that but not as much. 100 miles later I had a plugged filter (not upset at all as it lasted over 10k miles). Haven't changed the filter yet but I doubt it's related. The egr and intake were cleaned at 98k when I got the car, I put new air and fuel filters in it at around 100k and  timing belt done at 100k. Change my engine oil every 5k....not sure what else is significant. I know my oil is water free so I don't believe it to be water in the fuel.
My question is could this be caused by the MAF, dirty air filter, etc. ? I am not about to blame the fuel because I know my car runs really hot and has hardly ever smoked in the last 30k miles. the car has 134k miles right now.
All ideas helpful and appreciated.

Did you ever figure out what happened to your car? Could it be something not related to the running of WVO?

It's hard to say what caused the smoke that day. It has not been smoking at all lately. I don't know if it makes a difference, but when it happened I was about 8,000 feet above sea level and there were a lot of hills and "stop and go" driving. I've read it's not always a good idea to do that kind of driving for long periods of time on grease for several reasons. Blow by into the crankcase is one, and incomplete combustion is another. White smoke is indicative of incomplete combustion. Just a theory.

Glad to hear that your car is okay.  I have been driving my truck slowly around in the hills to get to good hunting spots and noticed that it blows blue smoke on acceleration.  I was wondering if I might be better off not using veg even though I would obviously rather use it over diesel.

Every vehicle is different, but I don't think idling for long periods of time is a good thing. Some engines like my TDI tend to lose heat and drop combustion temps. if the engine idles too long.
I have changed my air filter and diesel filter and don't see any more smoke. The air filter hadn't been changed in 40k and it was really dirty.
