I have a new to me greasecar converted 1984 mb 300d. I have helped a friend convert his vw so im a newbie with just a bit of experience, that is very interested in learning and doing work. im looking for wisdom and advise, so dont make dumb mistakes!
I purchased the greasecar temp gauge and need to know how to install it step by step or as close to as possible. first question is where? I have a inline mercedes line heater so i can put it after that or as someone at greasecar said put it on the line coming out of the banjo bolt. is this what he is talking about (circled in red)....If i need to insulate it...what would you recommend insulating it with?
Also he pointed out the my line is collapsed (purple circle) what is the best kind of line to replace it with or to prevent this from happening....
i have tons more question but this is a good start =) thanks in advance for your help.

Suggest installing a 90* elbow on the solenoid to eliminate the radical bend. Just before the IP, put a brass "Tee" and install the temp sender. Do you have a coolant temp gauge?
thanks for the tips!
are you asking about a different coolant gauge than the one thats in the instrument panel?
am i correct in placing the T where i circled RED in the pic? im assuming this is the line going into the IP
Okay after splicing the line i couldnt fit the T sensor in..so i replaced the line with fuel line i had laying around 30R7...Is this okay? if not what kind of line to i need to purchase to replace it?
thanks for your help! feels like i messed with perfection a bit...
Also i have some pipe insulation...is this okay to use that close to the engine? i could use electrical tape or duct tape?
thanks!

That crushed line is bad. Replace it and not such a tight loop next time.
for the temp sensor put it as close to injection pump as possible for a true reading. That banjo is on diesel side. Near the pump it will get the temp off either fuel and the diesel washes the sensor to fight polly.
I insulated mine with smallest size pipe insulation lowes had and wrapped it tight with electrical tape.
