bio medic ???
Any one tried lucas oil bio medic rx. In the storage tanks? Any diffrent than fppf killem? It's $60 a gallon treats 1000g. Any thoughts. It's. So hot and humid here constant battle with water and bacteria.
My problem has two issues 1- biggest source has water issues got two barrels with some bacteria starting. Have read that killem works just can't find locally. I can find bio medic easy. Want to treat so it won't get out of control.
2- heating barrel is open top pulls in humidity fast. Its 90-100 deg every day with 90%+ humidity every day for about 6 months.
Will be revising system to be air tight soon. Going with a still fed from a ibc tote putting desicant breathers on both with ball valves to seal when not in use. Adding a pipe with valve to pull a small vacuum on ibc with shop vac to get moist air out then fill it. Putting a bucket funnel on top with a sink drain trap to prevent wet air from entering system and a valve to close that when not using. Lining bottom of tote with rock salt. After oil is done in still will go directly in sealed 5 gallon buckets through the small fill spout for minimum air exposure. Taking the vent hose on gc tanks remote fill through desiccant also. Hope this fights off moisture finally.
Please comment on this plan good or bad.
Just got a email response from Lucas oil.there bio medic is NOT for use in wvo or bio diesel. If its no good for biod why put bio in its name. They only recomend it for reg old d2.
I haven't used this particular additive, but I have noticed most additives say they only work with diesel or biodiesel blends up to B20. Many people use the additives in vo anyways and seem to be happy with the results. I've been using Howes Diesel Treat in my diesel and just added some to my wvo tank last night to see if it helps with gelling (not that I've been having problems with this, just thought I'd try it since it's starting to get below freezing here). I guess my point is, just because it only advertises use in diesel, it could very well work in VO, there's just not a whole lot of people doing that so they haven't tested their product on it and haven't thought to market it for that.

Adequately dewatered and filtered WVO, stored in containers with no headspace for air, should have no problems with bacteria. I know I haven't had any bacteria. I store mine in 55 and 30 gallon barrels, filled to the top and sealed.
