Filtering before or after settling?

Whats the concensus on filtering veg oil before or after settling...
I let my stuff settle in a 55 gallon drum for 2 weeks then run thru gravity bag filters down to 1 micron.
Any benefit to filtering down to 1 micron then letting it settle for 2 weeks?

Your filter life will be greatly extended by filtering after settling. A huge majority of particulate settles not just water.

I use a 100 micron barrel filter first to catch the large chunks . Then let it settle for a few weeks . You will go through a lot of 1 micron filters if you use it first.
