How to clean a 7.3L PSD head that is gummed up with VO
I have run my 97 F350 for 108k miles on one set of injectors and for 20k on the next set and now my head is gunked up. It needs a thorough cleaning. A clean head would do me no good if I didn't filter my oil better. To that end I have done the following:
OLD AND NEW I only collect oil from the cleanest sources, store it for no more than 1 month during which time it settles in a dark room. I draw oil from 8" above the bottom of the tank and pass it through 2 tube socks to remove particles that would clog up my CF. I have run VegStable at the recommended level in my VO but didn't notice a difference. I did not use VegStable with the first set of injectors and poly did not cause me a problem.
OLD steel storage drums
NEW plastic storage totes
OLD I used to heat my oil in a steel drum to 140F and run it thorugh a
DieselCraft OC20 CF
NEW Now I heat my oil in an aluminum tank to 120k and run it thorugh a DieselCraft OC20 CF
OLD I used to heat all the oil in my 200 gallon holding tank before pumping it through a 10 micron filter into my truck
NEW now I only heat 60 gallons to 120F in an aluminum tank, pump it through a 10 micron filter and into my truck
Does anyone know the best way to clean the fuel galleys in these heads? Obviously I would have to get a new set of injectors.
Thanks,
BigRedWeather

Aint no crime in old oil. I've processed 2 year oil with now problem-and my average oil i process now ( when the wife bitches about cubies in the yard i dump them in barrels-and go for the oldest barrel 1st) is at least a year old.

This is a my oil room, a cistern with a large door cut in it. I haven't finished it so it looks a bit rough, but this is how it works. It has 2 275 gallon plastic totes for WVO and 1 275 gallon plastic tote for VO.
The WVO goes into the WVO totes and settles for several days or longer. When the door is closed it is dark inside the room to reduce polymerization. To filter oil I open a valve and it flows by gravity through 2 tube socks into the aluminum heating tank. This draws WVO from the WVO tote 6" above the bottom. It is heated to 130F by running juice to a 110V thermostat and to a 240V water heating element. A motor runs an Acura power steering pump to pump the WVO through my DieselCraft OC20 centrifuge. This runs for 6 - 8 hours to pass the oil throught the centrifuge 6 - 8 times . I turn a few valves and the oil is pumped through the large red 10 Micron Baldwin 584 filter into the VO tote.
When I need oil, I open another value that takes VO from the VO tote, by gravity, 6" above the bottom and puts it into the aluminum heating container. I heat the oil to 100F - 120F, and turn valves to pass it through the Baldwin filter again, and then into my truck's aluminum 60 gallon tank. From there, my Vegistroke V2 system heats the VO to 160F and runs it through another Baldwin 584 filter before it hits the cylinders.
I have recorded every gallon of diesel and VO I have put in the truck for four years, and after paying $6000 for the Vegistroke kit and the oil room, I have saved an additional $16,000.
The picture isn't the best, but I think you will get the idea with the above description.

Ok for original question. Have you considered a water/meth injection system? I am going to go that route with my truck. I have been told that it basically cleans your engine if you run straight water or if you run the water/methanol mix it will add performance.

Very very small amounts of water can ruin injectors and your injection pump. I don't see how you can run a diesel engine on water and methanol.

While it is true that any amount of water in your fuel can cause serious damage to you injection system, water injection kits introduce water vapor into the intake air. This is comparable to a more concentrated version of driving on a misty or foggy morning. There are certainly risks involved if your injector nozzle streams or leaks while the engine isn't running but it is not the same as having water in your fuel.
Sounds a lot like burning hydrogen. Just replace the water storage tank with a fuel cell and gain some horsepower and increase mileage by about 20%. Probably a little more spendy but should clean combustion chamber and lower egt's just like water vapor.
