Do people put additives in their diesel or veggie oil? I have had some trouble with fuel injectors and the injector pump getting gummed up. Do you add a solvent to clean things out? Do you do anything else to prevent this problem?

Try Diesel Purge.  your description of the IP being "gummed up" doesn't mean much in terms of helping with a suggestion.

I run injector cleaner 10x stronger than bottle says in d2 at all times. Keeps things real clean. Power service works good for me.
Cleaned out all the carbon with it glowplugs work again now.

Be kind to all of us!  List the brand name the injector cleaner.  I have installed a manual operated water injection system (parts listed below) to lower the carbon buildup in the combustion chambers, and injector tips.  I've noticed a slight improvement in engine power.  An automatic system that is activated by the turbo boost pressure can be installed.  Components can be purchased off the shelf or purchase complete systems for several companies on the WEB.

1 ShoreFlo Pump #8009-541-236
1 Lighted ON/OFF switch
1 MB in-line plastic fuel filter
1 90 degree PEX connector

I use powerservice in the gray bottle. Its just cleaner no winter additives. All the big chain truck stops have it.
